For the first time in 15 years, we did not attend our traditional family vacation where we reunite with the families we love. We have grown so close with so many families from all over the world & it truly was sad to think we would not see them in 2015 after 15 years together!!! It’s been amazing that no matter where life had taken us, we stopped ‘everyday life’ and met at good ol’ Camp Hebron for one week during the month of July. Because we were not vacationing at Camp Hebron, mom & I decided we still needed to be intentional about maintaining our friendships with the people we love… which leads us to this road trip!!!
We headed out early morning on New Years Eve for South Carolina. The Trephan family relocated from PA to SC over the past year, so we decided to spend new years with them. We found out the day before that another family, the Springers (their relatives), decided to make the trip from PA to SC for the weekend as well. We were SO EXCITED when we found this out!!! We arrived around 5 (I think?) & shortly after the Springers arrived. There was brief conversations about getting their cousin Jeremiah there, but to our knowledge he was not coming. Around 7:30 that evening Jeremiah & his brother Zechariah bust through the back door & surprise the majority of us with their presence!! It was about to be a full house for the next 4 days & I couldn’t imagine it any other way. A full house to me is a heart full just waiting for endless memories to be made.
We all celebrated New Years Eve together, went to Folly Beach, relived our childhood at Chucke E Cheese, walked the streets of Charleston, stayed up until 4 a.m., and played endless games. I’ll caption the photos along the blog post to tell more about the 4 days with 14 people in one house!! While in Charleston, I also had taken Leah’s senior pictures & she ROCKED the session.
After the Springers & Runkle men left on Sunday, Heather, my mom & I had a day trip planned to Savannah, Georgia for Monday. We met Heather’s sister-in-law and niece Elizabeth for the day. Elizabeth is pursuing photogrphy, so we did a mini mentor session. On our way home, we stopped at Hilton Head to visit Heather’s father. While there, we went to a local pizza restaurant who are major Ohio State fans & decorated their entire building in OSU. Monday evening I also went over to my friend’s (Brett+Kate) home for a couple hours.
Mom & I left SC Wednesday morning & made it to her cousin’s home in Mooresville, NC. We spent the remainder of the day there, enjoyed a spaghetti dinner & watched God’s Not Dead. Thursday morning we headed to PA, where we spent the remainder of our road trip. First, we stopped at our favorite, Texas Roadhouse, for dinner with the Hart’s. We stayed with our dear friends, the Cairns family, who we also met on vacation. Although we just saw the Springers in SC, we were able to enjoy watching Leah play basketball (She’s a baller!!!). On Saturday, I also took family pictures for the Cairns family!! Then, on Sunday, Chris Springer made us chicken + sauerkraut since we didn’t have any on New Years day in SC. We watched old camp videos from vacation & had a great last night in PA. We are thankful for each one of you, our continued friendships, and forever brother/sisterhood in Christ. Life will always continue to take us in different directions, but in these moments, we will cherish our time together.
