SEDONA, AZ | PART 2

AHHH!!! I could not be MORE excited to share with you one of my absolute favorite sessions TO DATE!!! There are so many reasons why I love this session with models Austin + Emily. (I need to say real quick, this is NOT an engagement session for these two. They were simply gracious enough to do some modeling for us in Sedona. Hannah was shooting some video for me for a promotional video & you can’t do that without people to photograph, right?) Anyhow, I actually attended college with Emily at Indiana Wesleyan University, but I did not know her well. She is a PURE natural in front of the camera, it’s kinda unfair to be honest (Ha!). Austin just complimented her so well & together, these pictures are just something else.

We started our session in Tlaquepaque, where Hannah + I took some portrait of one another before the couple arrived. You can view those images here, in case you missed it. The light was something to brag about here, but then again, the light of our entire session was lovely. I had so many people tell me, “You are going to love the light in Arizona!!” I kinda thought, as opposed to Ohio, you mean? Isn’t the sun simply the sun everywhere?! BUT now, I understand what they were saying because I really did learn how to shoot with the Red Rocks of Sedona and the the gorgeous golden hour.

We had SO MUCH fun (well, at least I DID!) during our session in Sedona. Because this session was more for personal growth within my business, there wasn’t the typical pressure, which means, we experimented!!! I pushed myself to think outside the box & not just do my ‘safe shots’, but to have fun with posing and light. I’m just thankful for these two, their patience, and epic modeling skills!!! I also want this photo shoot to serve as an example for all future couples when it comes to posing. Before engagement sessions, I may be sending this link out to couples for them to view to get a visual of not just my work, but for posing purposes. I think we made sure to get an ample amount of different poses to provide as examples for future couples. You will notice how we incorporated even a blanket & Emily’s sweater. They were very simple things, but you can’t deny what they brought into the photos.

I could look at these photos ALL day!! I’m not even sure what my favorite one is… When you are that natural in front of the camera, it sure makes it hard to pick!! I know not everyone has that sweet spot in front of the camera, but it is my goal to help bring out their genuine emotion towards one another, while making them feel super comfortable. When that happens, portraits like THIS happen!!!! Sure, we were in an EPIC location, but what actually makes these photos so pure are the subjects themselves. Not everyone gets the idea of an engagement session & I understand that, but if you could actually capture your emotion towards someone you love, why wouldn’t you?! Sometimes you can’t even put into words your emotion, but how special it is to have it captured for generations to come?!?!?! Think about it – It’s not a waste, it’s timeless!!!
