CHAMONIX, MONT BLANC | FRANCE

Exactly one month ago we arrived in Switzerland. Although this post is about France, it was part of a day trip we took from Switzerland. People continue to ask me what my favorite part of the trip to Europe was & instantly my mind goes to Chamonix!! We never even had France on our ‘visit list’ & somehow we found ourselves making a day trip into France from Switzerland.

My cousin Jimmy currently lives in Switzerland & made a list of things to do while we were there. He told us, “this may be one of the most expensive things you do while you are here, but it is BEYOND worth it.” Boy, was her right!! It was beyond anything I ever imagined. I’ll be honest, from now on, when I think of France, I will not think of the Eiffel Tower because this place surpasses anything I have ever visited. My cousin so kindly booked the “Alppy Bus” for us, which left from Geneva’s airport. It was over an hour drive to reach Chamonix, but the views on the drive were gorgeous.

Note, if you enjoy skiing, this is your safe haven right here. I feel like the best of the best come here. Chamonix feels as if it is within its own little bubble. The town is ADORABLE with GREAT food. I highly recommend it for the skiing type. It would be a dream vacation.

Upon arriving, we immediately got our tickets. Number 27 appeared & it was our turn to board. We had to take three different cable carts to get to the top. The views were breathtaking !!! It is 12,000 feet above elevation!! That’s right – 12k! I remember feeling funny at certain times, too.

Once we came back down into Chamonix, we took a train to go see a glacier. GUYS, we walked through a glacier!!! How epic is that? We had to go down zig-zagging stairs for 30-40 minutes to get down to the glacier. Along our hike down, we read signs that had different years on them. They showed us where the glacier was during that year to help us realize how much it has melted. The steps were quite an intense workout, but what was more impressive is all the skiers we passed along the steps. I’ve only skied once, but those shoes are hard enough to walk in, let alone to walk up hundreds of steps.

We quickly grabbed dinner at a place called Poco Loco, which had burgers the size of my face. It included three hamburgers, a hashbrown, and bacon on it. The other girls had fries in theirs instead of a hashbrown, but they were good & pretty cheap. Before we hopped on the Alppy Bus to head back to Switzerland, we grabbed some French bread & pastries for breakfast the next day!

Enjoy the breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, Chamonix & the glacier.
