Grand Canyon | Proposal

Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon?!?!?! Oh, my word, it’s such a wonder to see. I continue to tell people it seemed like such an illusion my eyes had fallen upon. It literally it so GRAND… the name is not deceiving at all.

The friend I was staying with out in Arizona was a friend from IWU, Hannah. The church she attends does not begin until 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 so we took advantage of our Sunday morning and ventured to the Grand Canyon. It was about an hour and half drive, but it was even a gorgeous drive. At some points, I felt like we were in a movie. We arrived and it was somewhat chilly, but mainly windy. As we began to walk along the rim, I felt like I could hardly take it all in. Hannah has been to the Grand Canyon a number of times so she knows all the little places to go to get away from the mass of tourists. She informs me we are going to get off the path of the rim & climb down to go sit on the ledge. Thankfully, I’m not scared of heights, but at first thought, it’s still an “AHHH moment”!

Because Hannah is a more advanced rock climber than I ever will be, she climbs down with no worries and quickly. I, on the other hand, have my heavy camera bag on my back & I’m being overly cautious. She is on ahead of me & yells, “Katie, hurry up!!” At first, I’m thinking, really?!?!? Then she yells for me to hurry because someone is proposing out on the ledge. Within a moment I hear other guys yelling, “SHE SAID YES!!!!!” Hannah did not pack her camera gear up with her so everything was with me. I move as quickly as I possibly can, set my bag down & get the camera gear ready. I begin just capturing a bit of their ‘moment’. As they started walking our way, Hannah + I approached them. We explained to them that we are professional wedding photographers and would love to share this moment with them by snapping a few NEWLY ENGAGED pictures!!?! I don’t think they knew how to respond at first, but then thought, how can we pass something like this up?! YOU JUST CAN’T!!!! It was a win-win!!! They got EPIC engagement pictures moments after his proposal & I have EPIC photos to include in my own body of work. Hannah did a lot of posing while I was afar snapping away of the lovely couple. Then, we asked for their emails so we could gift them these photos!! You will enjoy these photos of Carlos + Taylor!!!

After the excitement of the proposal, Hannah + I sat on the ledge eating Trader Joe’s popcorn, reading the written word, and acknowledging the presence of the Creator himself. It began to snow & the temperature changed pretty quickly. We decided we should probably pack up and begin our trip home. On the way home, we stopped at a little chapel along the side of the road. It was gorgeous. Because it is unlocked, you can go inside and enjoy the beauty it has to offer as well. Our final stop was the mountain in Flagstaff. Hannah took me up to her favorite spot, Aspen’s Corner. It was really snowing & they were expecting 13 inches on the mountain!!!! How crazy is that??! I thought I was in Arizona!!!! Enjoy our Sunday spent in Arizona!!
