NYC | THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

New York City!! Where do you begin? Honestly, there’s not a good starting point or ending point because there is WAY TOO MUCH to do & see. Just start where you are & don’t waste a minute of the day. As for us, my friend Emily & I, stayed in Brooklyn at an Airbnb. We had a great experience with the host & it was in a great location in Brooklyn. We were minutes away from the Barclay Center, which kind of served as our ‘center’ point of which direction to go to.

First, We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon, got a cab from the airport & headed to our Airbnb. Even though we were exhausted, we didn’t want to waste the day & needed some food. My cousin suggested we go to 5ive Tacos for a late lunch & that’s exactly what we did. Mind you, this is the cousin I stayed in Switzerland with & literally planned our entire stay of where to go and what to eat, and NOTHING disappointed us so I fully trusted whatever he suggested. We ordered Pho, vegetable dumplings & brussell sprouts. All was AMAZING!!! After we ate, we just strolled for miles in Brooklyn, taking it all in. We stopped in a few stores before & ended up going back out around 8:00 pm for dessert at the Chocolate Room. It perfectly hit the spot. Emily got hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows & chocolate cake, while I got the one and only Affogato. If you have no idea what that is & love espresso, you get ice cream with a shot poured over. It’s my all time favorite dessert !! We walked back ‘home’ for the night & met my cousin, Anita & her friend from Hungary at our place. Dorina was the maid of honor in the wedding & hung out with us all week/weekend.

Thursday morning we had brunch on the rooftop of 66Rockwell with friends and family. After brunch we took the train into Manhattan for the majority of the day. We walked Central Park, stopped in at the Rockefeller Center,  ate in China Town, and covered many miles. Later that night we met back up wit the Bride to be & family to go out for Anita’s bachelorette party.

On Friday we went back into Manhattan & explored some more. We visited the One World Observatory, which is built where the twin towers were. It’s an amazing view & you will see those photos below. I really wanted to visit the 9/11 Museum, but that will have to be the 2nd time around. We ate at Eately & overlooked the 9/11 memorial  & could see the hole from a bird’s eye view. We made it back in time for rehearsal, where Anita’s parents made a homemade Hungarian meal. It was AMAZING!!!! I would LOVE to learn how to make the delicious beef stew she made.

Saturday was wedding day!!! My cousin Jim is finally married to the beautiful Anita. I started in the early morning. Emily & I walked to the location & I started photographing all the details. We did their first look & all the pictures before the ceremony. It allowed us to go to amazing locations to get some of the most beautiful photos with gorgeous backdrops. One of Jim’s friends gave us access to his rooftop that allowed us to get the Empire State building in the backdrop (Thanks Dooley!). Then we went to Dumbo Park to get the bridges in the backdrop. Once we were done with pictures we headed back to the venue & then I actually got ready. It was SO nice not being fully dressed to ‘work’ & run all around NYC for pictures. We had plenty of time until the ceremony. The wedding was AMAZING & so fUN! I danced so much. I’m saving all those pictures for their own blog post. That’s coming this week 😉

We were out late for the wedding so we were very slow moving on Sunday. Emily & I got ready and headed to Manhattan to meet up with Dooley to go back up to the rooftop. He is a local New Yorker so we got more of a local experience for dinner afterwards. Thanks for showing us around 🙂

A HUGE thank you to Emily for going on this trip with me & assisting me on the day of the wedding. You cracked me up all week & got me from point A to point B as needed. I had a blast with you & so thankful for this unexpected friendship we have. You’re the best!!
