OH MY WORD! Where do I begin with this wedding?! I met Laura + RJ almost three years ago (I think?) thanks to a lovely past Katie Lee bride, Lisa Arnold. We were connected to do some family pictures while Laura’s family was in Ohio for Thanksgiving. Both Laura & RJ are from Kansas, but have relocated to Marysville & I’m so thankful they did. We did their engagement session here in Ohio & then we started talking more about the wedding. I was really really hoping they would ask me to travel for their wedding. Long story short, I did & I have LOVED getting to know them better through photography.
Their wedding reception was at Mildale Farm in Edgerton, Kansas with their ceremony in Overland, Kansas. It was literally one of the hottest days I have ever shot in. I had sunburn marks on my feet and drank endless water. I left a plastic cup in my car all day & after the wedding it was literally warped from the heat of the day. Anyways, the way this venue is set up is literally how every wedding venue should be set up. They had this property from Thursday to Monday. Not only did they have the keys to the venue itself, but two houses on the property that were opened for them to use. There was an Estate home & a GORGEOUS yellow cottage on the property that we used a lot for pictures. Laura & her girls stayed in the Estate house all weekend & the fellas stayed in the cottage. How nice is that? I LOVED photographing the girls in this estate house. The lighting was gorgeous & everything a photographer would want. Seriously, some of my ALL TIME favorites are from this wedding.
One other thing that stood out to me about this wedding was how loved these two are. I can’t believe where people came from to literally celebrate this day. Some bridesmaids were from Denmark & friends came in from Switzerland AND KENYA! Not to mention where everyone came in from within the states. I think that speaks volumes to who they are and how cherished they are by so many.
Their reception was so fun with so many surprises. Laura surprised RJ with a cake that looked exactly like his jeep – I think she even had the license plate on there. So fun! Then, RJ surprised Laura with a choreographed dance with all the groomsmen. IT WAS EPIC! I loved every minute of it. Their friends and family danced until the night was over. Nothing makes me more happy when it’s a good dance party.
Enjoy some favorites from their beautiful wedding day. I’m obsessed! Kansas, you did not disappoint.
